What is SOS?
SOS is the international Morse code distress signal. It was first adopted by the German government in 1905 and became the worldwide standard in 1908.
How to Signal SOS
The SOS signal consists of three dots, three dashes, and three dots, sent without any spaces between letters. This makes it distinctive and easy to recognize even in poor conditions.
When to Use SOS
SOS should only be used in genuine emergencies when life is at risk. It can be signaled using:
- Sound (whistles, horns, tapping)
- Light (flashlights, mirrors)
- Visual signals (flags, arm movements)
